This letter studies fixed-priority scheduling of mixed-criticality systems on a uniprocessor platform but in a more general way, using different priority orderings in different execution phases and considering them collectively. Then a sufficient response-time analysis is developed and a new priority assignment scheme is proposed. This generalized approach has potential in better schedulability performance for mixed-criticality systems.

Fixed-priority global scheduling for mixed-criticality real-time systems
There has been a growing interest in recent years in mixed-criticality real-time systems in which tasks are attributed different levels of criticality based on the degree to which their deadlines must be assured. While most of the initial efforts on mixed-criticality systems targeted single-processor systems, the research community has recently started to investigate multiprocessor mixed-critic...
متن کاملPartitioned Fixed-Priority Multiprocessor Scheduling for Mixed-Criticality Real-Time Systems Master of Science Thesis in Programme Computer Systems and Networks
The scheduling of real-time systems has been the subject of research for many years since it has many implications for safety-critical embedded real-time systems. Within that field, there have been two recent developments which are the subject of this thesis. The first is the development of new scheduling theory for mixedcriticality systems, i.e. systems in which functions of differing importan...
متن کاملThree Aspects of Real-Time Multiprocessor Scheduling: Timeliness, Fault Tolerance, Mixed Criticality
The design of real-time systems faces two important challenges: incorporating more functions/services on existing hardware to make the system more attractive to the market, and deploying existing software on multiprocessors (e.g., multicore) to utilize more processing power. Adding more services on the same hardware needs efficient resource utilization. In addition, satisfying the real-time con...
متن کاملSchedulability Analysis Towards Arbitrarily Activated Tasks in Mixed-Criticality Systems
The integration of mixed-critical tasks into a platform is an increasingly important trend in the design of real-time systems due to its efficient resource usage. With a growing variety of activation patterns considered in real-time systems, some of them capture arbitrary activation patterns. As a consequence, the existing scheduling approaches in mixed-criticality systems, which assume the spo...
متن کاملA review of priority assignment in real-time systems
It is over 40 years since the first seminal work on priority assignment for real-time systems using fixed priority scheduling. Since then, huge progress has been made in the field of real-time scheduling with more complex models and schedulability analysis techniques developed to better represent and analyse real systems. This tutorial style review provides an in-depth assessment of priority as...
